The Foundations of Unity

Unity actually began as the Assembly of God of Fairview, outside of Russellville, Arkansas. Under the leadership of Rev. William Nichols, it was formed on April 27, 1932. This church had its name changed later to Sunny Point Assembly as its location moved throughout the town. Around 1953, the church changed its name again to Southside Assembly, probably for their new location on the south side of town, on Highway 7. Then, in 1987, the name changed again to Sunny Point Assembly. It operated as such under various pastors until 2003.
At that time, Rev. Carroll Overturf, who served as pastor from 2002 to 2005, sold the existing property to a Spanish A/G congregation, purchased 6 acres of a hayfield in West Pottsville on Sweeden Road (then outside the city limits), and built the existing structure, changing the church's name to Unity. In conjunction with the efforts of the local church, much of the construction labor was generously donated by the RVers Ministry teams, and built debt-free.
Rev. Bill Caldwell served briefly as pastor during 2005.
Rev. Michael Sullivan came to Unity in June, 2006. At that time, with a beginning congregation of about 25, it was unanimously decided by the congregation to begin work of "repioneering" the church. With the combined efforts of the Unity Family and the grace of a Loving Lord, the church has grown to just over 100, and continues to reach beyond its walls to touch lives in the River Valley and beyond!
